When I heard Liane Moriarty was to embark on a national book tour to promote her latest novel “Here One Moment,” I was probably one of the first to jump online to make sure I got tickets for Perth. I was very excited and couldn’t wait to meet her in person, and the six weeks waiting for the event to come around went by slowly. Not just for me, but probably for the other couple of hundred attendees too! Hubby Mike and I were lucky enough to snag front-row seats in the large auditorium so we had a bird's eye view. Interviewer Meri Fatin did an excellent job, as I knew she would. I had met Meri a couple of times before, and she is such a consummate professional. Liane was so down-to-earth, and just a genuinely beautiful person that it felt like someone chatting in your own home. Honest, candid, and with no airs and graces, it would be impossible for anyone not to genuinely like her. It was all over too quickly, but I did get to ask her a question when the open mic did its rounds, which she answered honestly and with sincerity. I told her I was a published author, and asked her what she thought about her early work, as some seasoned authors say they look back and cringe compared to their latest offerings. She said that she was proud of her early work and that she wouldn’t change anything. She said it was fresh and there was nothing to live up to; it was part of who she is today. Lucky once more, I was one of the first in the line for the obligatory book signing, after which I cheekily gave Liane a small gift - a copy of my book, carefully wrapped with a message on the front. She remembered me and said “Oh, you’re the author!” and accepted my gift graciously, before writing a beautiful sentiment in the book she signed for me. Who knows if she’ll read it or not? She may have left it in her hotel room. But imagine the possibilities if she actually read it, and liked it enough to review it! That would indeed be something to write about!
