Happy Bookers Book Club Invitation

I was very honoured to be invited to the beautiful home of Jenny this week in the leafy suburb of Applecross, Perth, where she was hosting her monthly book club meeting AKA The Happy Bookers. Jenny kindly presented my novel If Wishes Were Horses as her book club choice for this month, which is very exciting.

I was impressed by how committed and invested all the group members are with their reading, and I enjoyed listening to the comments and feedback from last month’s book choice. Their enthusiasm and detailed critiques were next level, and detailed Minutes have been meticulously documented of every single book read for the last 20 years. This is an inspiring bunch; no wonder they’re celebrating their 20-year anniversary this year!

It was a beautiful evening of laughter, fabulous food and wine, and I was thrilled to meet Kerrie, Deb, Gabs, Fi, Esma, Jos and, of course, Jenny again, who provided excellent hospitality whilst I talked about my life and journey of becoming a writer.

I discussed my early childhood feelings of a family disconnection that led to my escapism with reading, and how this influenced my love of books. The ladies were interested in how the title of the book came about, the story, character names and what made me want to write a book. I hope they enjoyed the evening as much as I did, and that I answered all their questions!
